Wysox Township
Wysox, Pennsylvania
Wysox, the Indian's fertile "place of grapes",
founded in 1773, is situated in the center of Bradford County
in the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania. The extensive flat land
here is part of the long Susquehanna Valley and is remarkable
in a country of narrow valleys and rolling hills.
This lush river valley sustained men ten thousand years ago
as the age of ice receded into the North. A brief two hundred
years ago, the Indians lived here beside their corn fields.
Now the valley throbs with trade and industry. A commercial
strip borders U.S. Route 6 and the Masonite Corporation's
hardboard plant. The valley is still uncrowded however, with
many fields. Low wooded hills, some blue or purple in the
distance, surround the valley. Often the air has a sparkle
of purity and at other times the haze shrouds the distance
in mystery.
By-passed as yet by the mainstream, Wysox is within two hundred
miles of the Eastern Metropolis. Many are finding it an enjoyable
place to live.
The Golden Mile
We call it the "Golden Mile", but it is actually
more than a three mile stretch of rapidly developing commercial
growth, located in Wysox, Pennsylvania. With a variety of
available shops and services, the Golden Mile has become the
commercial hub for many outlying communities.
Beginning from its Eastern end, at the foot of the Wysox
narrows, and extending West to the center of the Veteran's
Memorial Bridge, this stretch of road hosts as many as 20,000
commuters daily along its golden mile of assets - a variety
of restaurants and food stores, a shopping center, banks,
local stores, car sales, hotels, a country club, historical
sites, etc..
